Maxine Henderson’s Bollygood Mule Recipe – Indianapolis Monthly

Maxine Henderson’s South Asian-inspired aromatic sodas may bring back memories of her childhood visiting India with her parents. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t as good in adult drinks, like in this complex version of a refreshing mule.

APPROXIMATION Henderson’s Flavor Bollygood soda, you can crack some cumin seeds and crush some basil leaves in the serving glass. To mimic lime in gin, add an extra squeeze of lime with the cocktail ingredients in addition to the lime garnish.

Make a cocktail


  • 2 ounces of Tom Bullock’s Old Tom Gin (or other gin)
  • 3 ounces Bollygood lime basil cumin sparkling soda (or other lemon-lime or ginger ale)
  • Lime slice
  • cracked ice


  1. Fill a glass or metal mug with ice.
  2. Add gin and soda. Stir.
  3. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
