Momos are not just popular among Delhi residents; in fact, most of us swear by them. Despite the plethora of street food alternatives available, momos are the one food that can be found in every nook and cranny of the city and that everyone enjoys.
Momos originated in Tibet and are now popular in India and the rest of the world. These are small pouches filled with various shapes and filled with vegetables or poultry. This is one of the best choices for a light but satisfying lunch. There are many different kinds of momos to try, ranging from conventional steamed momos to tandoori momos to pan-fried momos and even wheat momos for the more health-conscious!
As tasty as they are, they are always easier to prepare. Let’s try making and enjoying the classic home-cooked chicken steamed momos as the monsoon season approaches.
All purpose flour – 450 grams
Chicken – boiled and shredded – 300 grams
Refined oil – 1 tbsp
Salt – as needed
A small piece of ginger
Fresh garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Soy sauce – 2 teaspoons
Black pepper – as needed
Bell pepper (optional) – 1 small cup
Water – as needed
To start, boil the chicken with a little salt and pepper. Once the chicken is boiled, allow it to cool before shredding it into small pieces. Wash the vegetables thoroughly, chop them and set them aside. Add refined flour, salt and oil to a bowl and knead well with enough water. Make sure there are no lumps. Add the chicken to a separate mixing dish, followed by the chopped vegetables, and toss well to combine everything. After that, add the soy sauce well to the chicken mixture. Take the prepared dough and roll it into small balls.
Using a rolling pin, flatten the balls of dough. Make a square and add the filling in the center. Bring the edges tightly and shape according to your own choice to make a momo. Place the momos in a steamer and steam for 20 minutes, or until tender.
Ta-daa! Your chicken momos are hot and ready to eat. You can serve it with your favorite chutney or dip.
