Best Butterbeer Frappuccino Recipe Starbucks Copycat

If you have read the Harry Potter books and seen the movies, you know the drink they always talk about is butterbeer. It is served cold, cream soda flavored, hot in a mug or as a Frappuccino. This Copycat Harry Potter Butterbeer Frappuccino the recipe comes from Starbucks’ “secret menu” and is so easy to recreate at home! I made mine straight in the blender and it came out so good!

How to drink butterbeer

Butterbeer is sometimes served hot in a mug and I’ll post that version when it gets cold again, but it’s usually a soda type drink meant to taste like a cream soda or that version , which is transformed into a forty frappuccino. I really think this is the best way to enjoy a butterbeer drink.

What is a Butterbeer Frappuccino?

The original Starbucks Frappuccino that is on their “secret menu” is made without coffee or espresso. However, you can add strong espresso or coffee anytime you feel like it or have it that way, nice and sweet, creamy and thick from the blender.

How to Order a Butterbeer Frappuccino at Starbucks

When you’re on the go, passing a Starbucks, here’s how to order a Butterbeer Frappuccino: First you need to order a Vanilla Cream Frappuccino. Ask one of the baristas to drizzle the caramel syrup inside the cup, then ask them to add the caramel syrup and caramel nut syrup to the vanilla custard shake while ‘she’s mixed up. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of both syrups over the whipped cream. You now know how to order a Butterbeer Frappuccino at Starbucks, although I definitely think this Homemade Butterbeer Frappe is way better in my opinion.

The really good thing about making at home is that you can customize this frappuccino however you want. Make it low fat, low sugar or even sugar free. Or really decadent by adding more of everything! The sky is the limit with one of my imitation recipes.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup whole milk or half and half, you can also use dairy-free milk
  • 1 cup fresh ice is important for best taste, more if needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream, this is optional but adds great richness to the hit
  • 1/4 tsp xanthan gum, Starbucks uses this for extra thickness, you can substitute 1 tsp vanilla, plain or sugar-free instant pudding mix. Or, leave aside.
  • 2 ounces or 4 tablespoons caramel syrup, some will be used to drizzle the inside of the cup and on top of the whipped cream. Sugar-free syrup can be used instead.
  • 1 ounce or 2 tablespoons caramel nut syrup, plain or unsweetened, except one teaspoon for drizzling the top of the whipped cream. If you can’t find it at your local market, you can buy online or substitute with butterscotch syrup.
  • 1 shot of espresso or strong coffee, this is optional

How to Make a Starbucks Butterbeer Frappuccino

  1. Start by putting the ice cream in the blender. Mix to break the ice cubes a little. Add milk, vanilla, ice cream if using, xanthan gum or dry pudding and both syrups. Don’t forget to save some caramel syrup to drizzle the inside of the cup and both syrups to drizzle the whipped cream.
  2. Blend in a blender until nice and thick. If necessary, add more ice. Mix well and pour into the prepared cup. That’s it! Savor every last thick, luscious sip!
